REACHregelverket

REACHregelverket is the Norwegian implementation of the European Union's REACH regulation, which stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. It aims to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals. The regulation places the burden of proof on companies to demonstrate that the substances they manufacture, import, or use do not pose a risk.

Under REACHregelverket, companies must register their chemical substances with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). This registration process involves providing information about the properties and uses of the substances, as well as their potential hazards. The extent of information required depends on the volume of the substance manufactured or imported. For substances of very high concern, further authorisation may be required for their use. Additionally, REACHregelverket includes provisions for restricting the use of certain hazardous substances.

The regulation applies to a wide range of chemical substances, including those found in industrial processes, consumer products, and articles. It is intended to create a more transparent and responsible chemical industry, promoting safer alternatives and encouraging innovation in the development of less hazardous chemicals. Norway, as a member of the European Economic Area, has incorporated REACHregelverket into its national legislation.
