Querschnittslähmung, also known as spinal cord injury, refers to damage to the spinal cord that results in a loss of sensation and/or motor function. This damage can be caused by trauma, such as accidents or falls, or by disease, such as tumors or infections. The extent of the paralysis depends on the location and severity of the spinal cord injury. Injuries to the cervical (neck) region typically result in quadriplegia, affecting all four limbs, while injuries to the thoracic or lumbar regions usually lead to paraplegia, affecting the lower body.
