QM107

QM107 is a military vehicle developed by the Chinese state-owned company Norinco (North Industries Group Corporation) as part of its QM series of wheeled armored personnel carriers (APCs). Introduced in the late 1990s, it is designed primarily for infantry transport, reconnaissance, and light combat roles, serving as a modernized alternative to earlier Soviet-era APCs like the BTR-60.

The QM107 is a six-wheeled (6×6) vehicle, offering improved mobility compared to its four-wheeled predecessors. It is powered by a diesel engine, typically producing around 250–300 horsepower, allowing it to operate in various terrains while carrying a crew of two (driver and commander) and up to 12 fully equipped soldiers. The vehicle features a modular design, enabling it to be easily adapted for different missions, including command and control, medical evacuation, or engineering support.

Armament options vary depending on the configuration, but the QM107 often mounts a 12.7mm heavy machine gun or a 30mm automatic cannon for self-defense. Some variants include additional weapons stations, such as a coaxial machine gun or anti-tank guided missile launchers. The vehicle’s armor provides protection against small arms fire and shrapnel, though it is not designed for heavy anti-tank or artillery threats.

The QM107 has seen limited export success, primarily being used by Chinese military forces and a few other nations in Asia and Africa. Its design reflects China’s efforts to develop indigenous armored vehicles capable of modern combat requirements while maintaining cost-effectiveness. The vehicle remains in service alongside newer models in the QM series, such as the QMZ-80, as part of China’s evolving armored fleet.
