Pürgitud

Pürgitud is a theoretical concept in speculative linguistics, referring to a hypothetical proto-language from which several known and proposed language families are believed to have diverged. The term itself is not widely recognized or established within mainstream linguistic scholarship, and its origins are primarily found in fringe theories or specific, niche research communities.

The idea of a proto-language is a common one in historical linguistics, used to reconstruct ancestral languages like Proto-Indo-European or Proto-Bantu. However, pürgitud is distinct in its scope and the proposed families it encompasses. Proponents of the pürgitud hypothesis suggest it predates other widely accepted proto-languages and may be the root for families that are currently considered unrelated, such as Indo-European, Sino-Tibetan, and even some African or indigenous American language families.

Evidence cited for pürgitud is typically based on alleged deep lexical or structural similarities that proponents claim are too systematic to be mere coincidence.
