Pöytäsentrifugin

Pöytäsentrifugi is a compact laboratory device used for separating substances of different densities by spinning them at high speeds. The term "pöytäsentrifugi" is Finnish and translates to "tabletop centrifuge" in English, reflecting its small size and ability to be placed on a laboratory bench. These centrifuges are commonly found in research, clinical, and industrial settings where smaller sample volumes are processed.

The principle of operation relies on centrifugal force. When a sample, typically in a tube or vial, is placed in the rotor of the centrifuge and spun, the denser components are forced outwards, away from the axis of rotation. This results in the separation of components, such as cells from plasma in blood samples, or solids from liquids in chemical mixtures.

Pöytäsentrifugit vary in their capabilities, including maximum speed (measured in revolutions per minute, RPM, or relative centrifugal force, RCF), rotor types (fixed-angle or swinging-bucket), and capacity (the number and volume of samples they can accommodate). They are essential tools for many laboratory procedures, including sample preparation, purification, and analysis. Their small footprint and relative affordability make them a practical choice for laboratories with limited space or budget.
