Pörssissä

Pörssissä is a Finnish term meaning that a security is listed and traded on a stock exchange. It denotes an organized market where buyers and sellers meet, prices are formed through supply and demand, and securities can be issued, exchanged, or redeemed. The concept covers listed shares, funds, and other transferable securities, all subject to market rules and oversight.

In Finland the primary venue is Nasdaq Helsinki, part of Nasdaq Nordic. Nasdaq Helsinki operates an electronic order-driven market for equities and other securities. The market is integrated with its Nordic peers, enabling cross-listings and cross-border trading with investors from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Iceland.

The Helsinki market has a long history, with the Helsinki Stock Exchange dating back to 1912. It later became part of OMX AB and, after Nasdaq, Inc. acquired OMX in 2008, has been managed as Nasdaq Helsinki within the Nasdaq Nordic group.

Listing on Pörssissä typically requires meeting minimum capitalization, free float, liquidity, and governance standards, along with regular financial reporting. Listing provides access to capital and visibility, but imposes ongoing obligations to maintain disclosure and corporate governance.

Trading is conducted under local hours, commonly 9:00–17:30. Settlement and clearing are handled by Euroclear Finland, with clearing coordinated via Nasdaq’s central counterparties. The market is regulated by Finanssivalvonta (FIN-FSA) and governed by EU rules such as MiFID II.

In everyday Finnish usage, Pörssissä describes a security that is actively traded on the stock exchange. A company that is currently listed is described as pörssilistattu; announcements about earnings, dividends or issuances are reported in that context.
