Péropératoire refers to the period surrounding a surgical procedure. It encompasses the phases of care before, during, and immediately after the operation. The perioperative period is a critical time in a patient's healthcare journey, requiring careful management and coordination among various medical professionals.

The preoperative phase begins with the decision to undergo surgery and extends until the patient is transferred to the operating room. The intraoperative phase is the time from when the patient enters the operating room until they are transferred to the postanesthesia care unit. Close monitoring of vital signs and physiological status is paramount during this stage.

The postoperative phase commences when the patient is admitted to the postanesthesia care unit and continues through their recovery and discharge from the hospital or surgical center. This period focuses on pain management, monitoring for complications, wound care, and rehabilitation. The goal is to ensure a smooth recovery and a safe transition back to their pre-operative level of function.
