Pääomainvestointi

Pääomainvestointi, known in English as private equity investment, refers to investment in companies that are not publicly traded. This type of investment typically comes from private equity firms, which pool capital from institutional investors and high-net-worth individuals. The goal of a private equity firm is to acquire a substantial stake, often a controlling interest, in a private company, with the intention of improving its operations and financial performance over a period of typically three to seven years before selling it for a profit.

Private equity investments can take various forms, including leveraged buyouts (LBOs), where a significant amount of borrowed money is used to acquire a company, growth capital investments, which provide funding for expansion of existing companies, and venture capital, which is used to fund startups and early-stage companies with high growth potential. The private equity firm usually takes an active role in the management and strategic direction of the companies they invest in, aiming to increase their value through operational improvements, financial restructuring, or market expansion. The eventual exit strategy often involves selling the company to another private equity firm, a strategic buyer, or through an initial public offering (IPO).
