This encompasses the various layers and materials used to create a durable, flexible, and safe tire that can withstand the stresses of rolling on various surfaces.

The core of a tire's construction is its casing, which provides the structural integrity. This casing is typically made of layers of fabric cords, often polyester, nylon, or rayon, embedded in rubber. The orientation of these cords influences the tire's performance characteristics, such as its rigidity and heat resistance. Radial construction, where the cords run perpendicular to the direction of travel, is the most common type today, offering better fuel efficiency and ride comfort compared to older bias-ply designs.

Above the casing is the belt package, usually consisting of steel or aramid cords, which lies beneath the tread. These belts reinforce the tread area, providing stability, puncture resistance, and preventing deformation. The tread itself is the part of the tire that contacts the road, and its pattern and rubber compound are engineered for specific purposes like grip in wet or dry conditions, low rolling resistance, or off-road traction.

The sidewall of the tire is also an integral part of its construction, containing important information and providing protection to the casing. It must be flexible enough to absorb shocks while remaining resistant to damage from the elements and road debris.
