Pystyjäviin

Pystyjäviin is a Finnish term that translates to "vertical takeoff and landing" in English. It refers to an aircraft that can take off and land vertically, without the need for a runway. This capability is achieved through various technologies, most commonly by directing thrust downwards.

Aircraft capable of pystyjäviin include helicopters, which use rotating rotor blades to generate lift and thrust in any direction, and tiltrotor aircraft, which have engines and rotors that can pivot to provide vertical lift or horizontal thrust. Some jet aircraft, such as the Harrier Jump Jet, achieve vertical takeoff and landing by vectoring their engine exhaust downwards.
