Purenta-alueet refers to the anatomical regions involved in the act of biting and chewing. This concept is primarily used in dentistry and orthodontics to describe the areas of the mouth and jaw that interact during mastication. Understanding these areas is crucial for diagnosing and treating malocclusions and other dental issues.

The main components of the purenta-alueet include the teeth, the temporomandibular joints (TMJs), and the muscles of mastication. The teeth are responsible for breaking down food, with incisors for cutting and canines and molars for grinding.
