Pupillförstorning

Pupillförstorning, also known as mydriasis, is the dilation of the pupil, the black opening in the center of the iris. This enlargement of the pupil allows more light to enter the eye, which can improve vision in dim lighting conditions. Pupillförstorning can occur naturally in response to low light levels or emotionally stimulating situations. It can also be induced artificially for medical or recreational purposes.

Medically, pupillförstorning is often achieved using specific eye drops called mydriatics. These drops relax the iris muscles, causing the pupil to widen. This is commonly done during eye examinations to allow a doctor to get a better view of the internal structures of the eye, such as the retina and optic nerve. It can also be used to treat certain eye conditions or after specific eye surgeries.

In some cases, pupillförstorning can be a symptom of an underlying medical condition or a side effect of certain medications, including some antidepressants, antihistamines, or drugs used to treat Parkinson's disease. Recreational use of substances can also lead to pupil dilation.
