Puntsverschil

Puntsverschil, often translated as "point difference" or "goal difference" in English sports contexts, is a statistical metric used in various sports to determine team rankings when teams have the same number of points. It is calculated by subtracting the total number of points or goals conceded by a team from the total number of points or goals scored by that team over a season or tournament. A positive puntsverschil indicates that a team has scored more than they have conceded, while a negative puntsverschil means they have conceded more than they have scored.

The primary purpose of puntsverschil is to break ties in league tables. If two or more teams finish with an identical number of points, the team with the superior puntsverschil is ranked higher.
