Punertaa

Punertaa is a Finnish verb meaning to become reddish or to blush. It is used to describe a natural color change in the skin, most often on the face, caused by warmth, sun exposure, physical exertion, or emotional states such as embarrassment. The term is closely related to the adjective punainen (red) and conveys a transition toward a reddish hue rather than a fixed color.

In usage, punertaa is intransitive and typically does not take a direct object. It’s common to say that a person or a part of the body punertaa, for example “posket punertavat” (the cheeks redden) or “kasvot punertavat auringossa” (the faces redden in the sun).
