Pumpmixer

Pumpmixer is a fluid handling device that combines pumping and mixing in a single unit to move liquids while achieving a specified degree of homogeneity. By integrating agitation with pressure-driven flow, pumpmixer systems aim to provide continuous blending and transport without requiring separate pumps and mixers downstream.

Common configurations include inline pump-mixers that integrate a mixer element within the pump discharge, and stand-alone pumps followed by inline static mixing elements. Other designs use jet- or eductor-based mixing, where high-velocity fluid jets create shear and recirculation to promote blending within the conveying line.

Materials of construction are typically chosen for corrosion resistance and cleanability, with stainless steels such as AISI 304/316, and special alloys for aggressive fluids. Sanitary designs aligned with food, drug, or cosmetic standards are common, and many pumpmixers support CIP/SIP protocols, easy disassembly, and surface finishes suitable for hygiene-critical industries.

Industries that use pumpmixer systems include chemical processing, cosmetics and personal care, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, water and wastewater treatment, and polymer or pigment manufacturing. They are favored for processes requiring continuous resin or slurry blending, emulsification, dispersion of additives, or gentle suspension of solids during transport.

Performance characteristics include the ability to set mixing intensity via pump speed, flow rate, or by adding static mixing elements. Advantages over separate equipment include reduced footprint, fewer connections, lower contamination risk, and improved process control. Challenges can include shear sensitivity of products, potential fouling in narrow passages, and higher initial cost.
