Pulvermetallurgy is a manufacturing process that involves the creation of metal components from metal powders. The process begins with the production of fine metal powders, which can be achieved through various methods such as atomization, electrolysis, or chemical reduction. These powders are then carefully mixed with other powdered materials, including alloying elements or lubricants, to achieve the desired properties for the final product.

The blended powder is subsequently compacted into a desired shape, typically using mechanical presses or isostatic presses. This compacting step, known as "green compacting," creates a solid but porous form. Following compaction, the green compact undergoes a high-temperature treatment in a controlled atmosphere furnace called sintering. During sintering, the particles fuse together, increasing the density and strength of the component.

Depending on the application, further processing steps may be employed, such as secondary operations like machining, coining, or heat treatment, to achieve the final desired dimensions and mechanical properties. Pulvermetallurgy is advantageous for producing complex shapes, parts with controlled porosity (like filters), or materials that are difficult to process through traditional melting and casting methods. It finds applications in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, medical devices, and electronics.
