Præpositsioone

Præpositsioone is a term found in older Scandinavian grammars to describe a category of linguistic markers that function as prepositions or as prepositional constructions. In these sources, præpositsioone encompasses words and particles that introduce a noun phrase and express relations such as location, direction, time, and manner.

Etymology and scope: The term derives from Latin praepositio, “placed before.” In early modern Danish and Norwegian grammars, præpositsioone was used as a descriptive label for prepositional elements, sometimes overlapping with what later came to be called prepositions and postpositions.
