Prädikativnomina

Prädikativnomina, also known as predicate nominatives, are nouns or noun phrases that follow a linking verb and rename or identify the subject of the sentence. Linking verbs, such as "to be," "to become," "to seem," and "to appear," do not show action but rather connect the subject to a word or phrase that describes or identifies it. The prädikativ nomen essentially acts as a complement to the subject.

For example, in the sentence "She is a doctor," "doctor" is a prädikativ nomen. It renames "she," the subject of the sentence, by stating her profession. Similarly, in "He became a lawyer," "lawyer" functions as a prädikativ nomen, identifying what "he" transitioned into. It is important to distinguish prädikativnomina from direct objects, which receive the action of a transitive verb. Prädikativnomina are not affected by the verb's action; instead, they share the same identity or characteristic as the subject. The prädikativ nomen will always be in the same case as the subject in languages that have grammatical case distinctions.
