Przysówkowyforma

Przysówkowyforma, sometimes written without a space as przysówkowyforma, is a term encountered in Polish linguistic discussions to describe forms that express adverbial meaning. In standard terminology, the more common phrase is forma przysłówkowa or imiesłów przysłówkowy, but przysówkowyforma is used in some texts as a shorthand reference to adverbial forms within inflectional and derivational systems. The concept encompasses both adverbial participles and other forms that function as adverbs in sentences.

The main components of the adverbial (przysłówkowy) forms include imiesłów przysłówkowy współczesny (present adverbial participle) and imiesłów przysłówkowy uprzedni (past adverbial participle). Examples of the present type are words like idąc (going, as in “speaking while going”) and biegnąc (running, as in “while running”). The past type includes forms such as zrobwszy or zrobiwszy (having done), which express a prior action relative to another event. These forms are used to create subordinate adverbial clauses or act as adverbial modifiers of verbs.

Beyond participles, adverbial forms also cover adverbs formed from adjectives or other bases that convey manner, degree, or circumstance, for example szybko (quickly), głośno (loudly), and ładnie (beautifully). While these are standard adverbs, they are often discussed in parallel with przysłówkowy forms when describing how actions occur.

Usage and syntax typically place przysłówkowyforma-derived forms as modifiers of verbs, indicating time, manner, condition, or result. They can participate in complex sentence structures, including sequences of events, temporal relations, or causality. The term remains less common in everyday grammar but appears in specialized grammars and comparative studies of Slavic adverbial forms.
