Przejazd

Przejazd is a Polish noun that broadly denotes a passage, crossing, or act of travelling from one place to another. In everyday language it can also refer to a short trip or drive, for example a “krótki przejazd” to work or a stroll through the park. The word is formed from the prefix prze- and the root jazd (from jazda, driving or riding).

In infrastructure and transport contexts przejazd is used to describe a crossing or route where movement occurs across an obstacle or another route. The most common example is the przejazd kolejowy, a railway crossing where a road or path intersects train tracks. Such crossings may feature signs, signals or barriers to regulate traffic and protect pedestrians and motorists. The term can also appear in phrases describing road or path crossings in general, though more specific terms like przejście (crossing) are sometimes employed for pedestrian passages.

Przejazd is also used as a place name in Polish geography. There are locations and settlements that bear the name Przejazd, reflecting its use as a toponym in various regions.
