Prudnik
Prudnik is a town in southwestern Poland located in Opole Voivodeship, within Prudnik County. It lies in the historical region of Moravia, with the Biała River running through its centre. The town covers an area of roughly 36 square kilometres and has an estimated population of about 12,200 residents as of 2023, reflecting modest growth relative to historic levels. Historically, Prudnik was first mentioned in the 12th century as part of the medieval Kingdom of Bohemia and later became incorporated into the Habsburg Monarchy until the early 19th century. During the period of the Duchy of Silesia, it developed around a defensive castle erected in the 13th century. The town came under Prussian control after the Silesian Wars, remained in Germany until the end of World War II, and then was reassigned to Poland, with a significant post‑war population shift.
Economically, Prudnik historically centered on agriculture and light industry, including a prominent glassworks and textile factory.
