Protoconlangs

Protoconlangs are hypothetical languages which are reconstructed from the proto-languages of historical language families. These reconstructions are typically based on comparative linguistics and are used to study the evolution and development of languages over time. A language's protolanguage is the earliest stage of the language family to which it belongs, as opposed to its modern languages and dialects.

Protoconlangs are often represented using an alphabet and grammatical structures that resemble those of the language they are derived from. In some cases, protoconlangs are presented in a highly simplified or " idealized" form in order to make it easier to understand the relationships between different languages. Reconstruction of protoconlangs is a complex process, which involves identifying cognates between words, matching different sound changes, and reconstructing grammatical structure.

Some notable examples include Proto-Indo-European, Proto-Græcistic, and Proto-Romani. Additionally, the amount of data available from which to reconstruct a language can greatly vary, and some protoconlangs are models rather than actual reconstructions of spoken languages.
