Prostjov

Prostějov is a city in the Czech Republic, located in the Olomouc Region and is the administrative center of Prostějov District. It lies in the Moravian region of Haná, on the upper course of the Haná River, about 25 kilometers southwest of Olomouc. The city has about 44,000 residents.

The area's settlement dates to the Middle Ages, and Prostějov developed as a market town on historic trade routes between Olomouc and Brno. It became an important regional center for linen and textile crafts, a tradition that shaped its economy in the 19th and 20th centuries. Today the economy is diversified, with manufacturing, services and small businesses complementing the long-standing textile sector.

The historic center preserves a mix of architectural styles from the Renaissance to the Baroque, including streets with traditional Moravian townhouses. The city hosts cultural institutions such as a regional museum and a gallery, libraries and regular events that reflect its urban and rural surroundings. Prostějov is also known for its local educational and social facilities and acts as a service and commerce hub for the surrounding agricultural area.

In terms of transportation, Prostějov is connected by rail and road to Olomouc, Brno and other towns, with services that link it to the broader Czech transport network. The city is the seat of the Prostějov District within the Olomouc Region.
