Promycelium

Promycelium is a term used in mycology to describe a transitional or immature stage of mycelial development. It represents the initial growth phase of a fungus before it fully differentiates into a mature, established mycelial network. This stage is characterized by rapid, often diffuse growth as the hyphae begin to explore and colonize a substrate. The structure of promycelium can be less organized and specialized compared to mature mycelium, with hyphae that may be thinner, more irregular in branching, or lacking the dense aggregation often seen in later stages.
