Prolacertosaurus

Prolacertosaurus is an extinct genus of reptile known from fragmentary Triassic fossils. The name suggests a relation to Prolacerta and a lizard-like form, but its exact relationships are uncertain. The available material is limited to a small number of isolated bones, making a detailed description difficult.

The phylogenetic position of Prolacertosaurus is debated. It has been variably placed within Archosauromorpha or in close relation to Prolacerta, but because the holotype consists of fragmentary remains, several researchers consider it a nomen dubium or a possible junior synonym of another taxon. Additional fossil material would be needed to confirm its validity.

Fossils attributed to Prolacertosaurus are fragmentary and no diagnostic skull material is known. Due to the scarcity of remains, precise measurements and features used to diagnose the genus are limited.

With the available material, nothing definitive can be stated about its size, appearance, or ecology. If it represents a distinct lineage, it would contribute to understanding the early diversification of archosauromorph reptiles in the Triassic.
