Prokuru

Prokuru is a fictional coastal town in the archipelago of Lyria within the nation of Veridia. It lies on a sheltered bay on the southern coast of Pinar Island and is connected by a short ferry to the main city of Aldara. The town serves as a local fishing and trading hub.

Historically, Prokuru was settled in the 12th century by seafaring communities. It gained municipal rights in 1583, developed a timber trade in the 19th century, and modernized its harbor in the mid-20th century, spurring growth in commerce and services.

Geography and climate: The town is bordered by mangrove flats and a hilly hinterland. It experiences a temperate maritime climate with mild, wet winters and cool, dry summers. The Prokuru River flows through the western outskirts.

Economy and infrastructure: Fishing remains the main industry, supplemented by boatbuilding, small-scale tourism, and a weekly market. The Prokuru Pier and a lagoon-side fish market are central landmarks. It has a single secondary school, a clinic, and a municipal library. Transportation includes a harbor, a ring road, and regular ferries to Aldara.

Demographics and culture: The population is around 9,800, predominantly Lyran-speaking with a minority of Veridian-speaking residents. Cultural life centers on the Sea Festival, traditional songs, and seafood cuisine. Governance is via a town council headed by a mayor.
