Prokuroria

Prokuroria is the public prosecutor’s office, the state institution responsible for the criminal prosecution of offenses and for directing and supervising criminal investigations. Its core mandate is to initiate and conduct prosecutions in the name of the state, to gather and present evidence, and to represent the state in court against suspects and convicted persons. The office may also oversee police investigations to ensure legality, protect due process, and coordinate with other authorities on matters such as corruption, organized crime, and financial crime.

The term prokuroria and its exact duties can differ by jurisdiction, but the concept generally denotes the central state body responsible for criminal prosecution and for upholding the integrity of the criminal justice system. In Albanian contexts, for example, the Prokuroria e Përgjithshme operates under national legal frameworks and oversight structures such as the High Prosecution Council.
