Producereid

Producereid is a neologism that appears in discussions of product provenance and data interoperability. It denotes a unique identifier assigned to the producer (manufacturer) of a product within a data ecosystem. The term is not part of a single widely adopted standard and may be used variably across organizations.

Definition and scope: A producereid may be implemented as a URI, GUID, or other persistent token. It is intended to enable traceability by linking production events, lot or batch records, and regulatory submissions to the responsible producer. In some contexts, it is used to distinguish the producer from suppliers, distributors, and other entities involved in the product’s lifecycle.

Usage and applications: In supply chain traceability, producereid supports data integration across enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, manufacturing execution systems (MES), and external data standards by providing a stable reference to the producer. It can facilitate recall management, compliance reporting, and provenance analytics by anchoring product information to a verifiable source.

Considerations: Governance and lifecycle management are important, as producers may merge, split, relocate, or change ownership. Privacy and data-sharing policies influence whether and how much producer metadata is exposed. It is necessary to define whether a producereid identifies a legal entity, a physical production site, or both, to avoid ambiguity in data models.

Relationship to other concepts: Producereid is similar in purpose to producer IDs used in various data models but is not a standardized term. It tends to function as a practical label for producer attribution within provenance graphs and interoperability schemas.
