Priklausomyb

Priklausomybė is a Lithuanian noun meaning the state of dependence or subordination; it is formed from the verb priklausyti (to belong to, to depend) with the suffix -omybė that denotes a state or quality. The standard spelling is priklausomybė; the truncated form priklausomyb is not correct in formal writing.

In political and economic contexts, priklausomybė describes the condition of being dependent on another state, organization, or system. This can refer to external influence, economic reliance, or subordination within a federation or empire. In contrast, nepriklausomybė denotes independence or sovereignty; the prefix ne- marks negation. Political discourse often contrasts priklausomybė with nepriklausomybė when discussing autonomy, colonial histories, or post-independence restructuring.
