Presenteeriva

Presenteeriva is a term used in linguistic theory to denote a hypothesized grammatical mood that marks the speaker’s stance toward events occurring in the present. The concept is not widely attested in established descriptions of natural languages, and it appears chiefly in theoretical discussions and in studies of mood systems that cross-cut tense, aspect, and evidentiality.

In the proposed accounts, a presenteeriva clause signals the speaker’s immediacy or experiential certainty about a present-state proposition. It may encode perception, memory, or inference about a present event, and it can interact with other categories such as aspect and evidentiality. Realisations could be affixes, clitics, or separate particles attached to the verb or predicate. The feature is sometimes described as lying between the declarative present and an evidential present.
