Preovulatoriska

Preovulatoriska refers to the time period in a woman's menstrual cycle that occurs before ovulation. This phase is also known as the follicular phase, as it is characterized by the development of follicles within the ovary. Each follicle contains an immature egg cell. Under the influence of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), several follicles begin to grow, but typically only one dominant follicle will mature.

During the preovulatory phase, estrogen levels rise significantly as the dominant follicle develops. This increasing estrogen stimulates the thickening of the uterine lining, also known as the endometrium, in preparation for a potential pregnancy. The surge in estrogen also triggers a significant rise in luteinizing hormone (LH), which is a key event that leads to ovulation.

The duration of the preovulatory phase can vary from woman to woman and even from cycle to cycle. It generally lasts for about 7 to 21 days, but it is the follicular phase that determines the overall length of the menstrual cycle. The end of the preovulatory phase marks the beginning of ovulation, the release of a mature egg from the dominant follicle. Understanding the preovulatory phase is important in contexts such as fertility awareness and family planning.
