Prendessi
Prendessi is the imperfect subjunctive form of the Italian verbs prendere and prendersi (to take, to take for oneself). It appears in subordinate clauses introduced by verbs or expressions of doubt, possibility, desire, or emotion, or in hypothetical conditional clauses with se. The form is used with different subject pronouns: che io mi prendessi, che tu ti prendessi, che lui si prendesse, che noi ci prendessimo, che voi vi prendeste, che loro si prendessero. The same -essi ending occurs in non-reflexive use as che io prendessi, che tu prendessi, and so on.
Morphology and usage notes: in the imperfect subjunctive, io/tu take the ending -essi, while lui/lei takes -esse,
Examples and context: common uses include clauses after verbs of doubt or necessity, or in literary/higher-register
