The term is used primarily in German-speaking regions and applies to both vocational education and higher education models that integrate theory with professional practice.

In praxisintegrierte Ausbildungs- und Studiengänge, students or trainees spend explicit portions of their program in partner companies or institutions, combining on-the-job activities with classroom or campus-based learning. The practical phases can be organized as alternating blocks, ongoing work placements, or project-driven collaborations, always aligned with the academic or vocational goals of the program. This integration aims to facilitate knowledge transfer between theory and practice, improve employability, and shorten the route from education to the labor market.

Typical features include structured cooperation between educational institutions and industry, clearly defined learning outcomes for both theoretical modules and practical tasks, and assessments that draw on both academic examinations and workplace performance. Projects, applied research, and real-world assignments often play a central role, with supervision provided by both mentors at the partner company and instructors at the institution.
