Prawoskrtnego

Prawoskrtnego refers to the traditional calendar used by the Russian Orthodox Church. This calendar dates back to around the 5th century and is a notable modification of the Julian calendar, which was introduced by Julius Caesar in 45 BCE.

The main distinction of the prawoskrtnego calendar from the Julian calendar lies in the way it accounts for the discrepancies that have accumulated over the centuries. As the Julian calendar has a leap year every four years, it results in a discrepancy of about 11 minutes per year. However, since the Earth's rotation slows down due to the Moon's gravitational pull, this discrepancy eventually adds up, leading to an error of nearly a day.

The prawoskrtnego calendar takes this into account by removing the leap year in years that were divisible by 100, but not by 400. This way, it eliminates three leap years over a four-century period, which makes the calendar closer to the actual solar year. This adjustment was first introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 with the Gregorian calendar, which is now generally used around the world.

Despite being more accurate, the prawoskrtnego calendar has its own set of rules and traditions. The Orthodox Church continues to use it for determining the date of Easter, which is a moveable feast that falls on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25. The prawoskrtnego calendar also shapes the daily lives of Orthodox followers, who follow it to determine the timing of prayer services, holiday celebrations, and other important events.
