PowerShare

PowerShare is a technology that allows multiple devices to wirelessly charge each other. Developed by Apple, it was first introduced with the iPhone 15 series in 2023. The core concept is that a device with a higher battery level can transfer power to another device that has a lower battery level. This is achieved through the Qi wireless charging standard, which is widely adopted across many consumer electronics.

When two PowerShare-compatible devices are brought close together, and one has a sufficient charge, the charging device will detect the other. The user can then initiate the power transfer through the device's settings. This feature is particularly useful for topping up accessories like wireless earbuds or smartwatches that also support Qi charging, especially when a dedicated charger is not readily available.

The power transfer is bidirectional, meaning either device can act as a charger or be charged, depending on their respective battery levels. PowerShare is designed to be an opportunistic charging solution, meaning it's intended for situations where a small boost is needed rather than for rapidly charging a device from empty. The efficiency and speed of the transfer are subject to the limitations of the Qi wireless charging standard.
