Pou27

Pou27 is a protein encoded by the POUI2 gene. It belongs to the POU-domain family of transcription factors, which are characterized by a highly conserved DNA-binding domain composed of two subdomains: the POU homeodomain and the POU-specific domain. These domains mediate interaction with specific DNA sequences, thereby regulating gene expression.

The POUI2 gene is primarily expressed in the developing nervous system. Pou27 plays a crucial role in neurogenesis, the process by which new neurons are formed. It is involved in the differentiation of neural progenitor cells into various neuronal subtypes and also contributes to the survival of developing neurons.
