Postaddressing refers to the practice of adding specific instructions or details to a postal address that are not part of the standard geographical designation. These additions can clarify delivery, indicate recipient preferences, or convey additional information to postal carriers. Common examples include apartment or suite numbers, "care of" (c/o) notations for mail directed through an intermediary, or specific instructions like "hold at post office" or "deliver to back door."

The purpose of postaddressing is to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of mail delivery. By providing more granular information, senders can reduce the likelihood of misdelivery or delays. For instance, including a unit number ensures mail reaches the correct individual within a larger building.
