Post2015

Post-2015 is a term used to describe the period and policy environment that followed the year 2015, particularly in international development and global governance. It marks the transition from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which guided global development from 2000 to 2015, to a new framework established in 2015 known as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The core element of the post-2015 framework is universality and integration. The SDGs, adopted in 2015, comprise 17 goals and 169 targets intended to be pursued by all countries, addressing poverty, health, education, inequality, climate action, sustainable cities, and governance, among other areas. The agenda emphasizes inclusive, people-centered development, environmental sustainability, and the use of data and monitoring to track progress toward 2030.

Policy and practice in the post-2015 period have focused on aligning national development plans with the 2030 Agenda, reforms in financing for development, and strengthened international cooperation. Data quality, statistical capacity, and accountability mechanisms have been highlighted as essential for measuring progress and informing policy.

While the post-2015 period brought a more integrated and universal approach to development, it also faces challenges, including finite resources, uneven implementation, data gaps, and geopolitical tensions that affect multilateral cooperation. In broader discourse, the term can also denote various social, political, or economic shifts occurring after 2015 beyond the development realm.
