Portmere

Portmere is a coastal town and port in Eldoria, situated on the sheltered inlet of Morin Bay along the southern coast. It serves as a regional hub for fishing, maritime services, and tourism. The population is about 22,000, with a historic town center surrounding Port Square and a modern harbor district.

The settlement grew from a 12th-century fishing hamlet tied to nearby estates. It gained town rights in the late medieval period, developing wharves and a guild hall. The arrival of steam navigation in the 19th century expanded trade, while postwar modernization introduced container handling and ship repair facilities. The harbor remains central to the local economy.

Portmere sits on a natural harbor protected by breakwaters. The surrounding terrain is gently rolling, with low-lying floodplains near the shore and hills inland. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters and cool summers.

The port handles cargo including bulk and containerized goods and supports passenger ferries to nearby islands. A fishery and fish processing plant operate nearby. The town has light manufacturing, logistics services, and a growing tourism sector focused on the waterfront, maritime museums, and coastal trails.

The harbor links to a regional rail line and the national road network. Regular ferries connect Portmere with adjacent islands. Eldoria International Airport is about 60 minutes by rail and road.

Portmere hosts the Maritime Institute and a local museum detailing maritime history. The annual Harbor Festival draws visitors with sailing regattas and market stalls.
