Pomurska

Pomurska, commonly known as Pomurje, is one of Slovenia's twelve statistical regions, located in the northeastern part of the country. It is bordered by Austria to the north and Hungary to the east, and lies along the Mura River, with its floodplain and surrounding agricultural land shaping the landscape. The region's administrative center and largest town is Murska Sobota. The northeastern wedge of the region includes parts of the Goričko landscape, a low hill area that adds variety to an otherwise flat to gently rolling terrain.

Economy and infrastructure: Pomurska is an agricultural region, with crops such as grains, corn, and fruits, and considerable livestock farming. Tourism also plays a role, highlighted by spa towns such as Moravske Toplice and Radenci, as well as nature and cycling routes along the Mura River and in the hills of Goričko. The region is connected by road and rail to Ljubljana and to neighboring countries, supporting local industry and cross-border exchange.

Demographics and culture: The population is predominantly Slovenian, with a Hungarian minority present in certain communities. The region preserves a distinct cultural heritage tied to its border location, including traditional cuisine, music, and festivals that reflect both Slovenian and Central European influences.
