Polüomruumis

Polüomruumis, also known as polyomavirus, is a genus of viruses that belong to the family Polyomaviridae. These viruses are small, non-enveloped, and icosahedral in shape, with a diameter of about 40-50 nanometers. They are DNA viruses, which means their genetic material is composed of double-stranded DNA.

Polyomaviruses are known to infect a wide range of hosts, including humans, rodents, and other mammals. In humans, they are associated with various diseases, such as progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) and certain types of cancer. The most well-known polyomavirus is the JC virus, which is responsible for PML in humans. Other notable polyomaviruses include the BK virus, which is also associated with PML, and the simian virus 40 (SV40), which has been linked to certain types of cancer in humans.

Polyomaviruses replicate in the nucleus of the host cell and can integrate their DNA into the host genome. This integration can lead to the expression of viral proteins and the production of new viral particles. The infection process can be complex and involves various host cell factors.
