Polymeerityyppeihin refers to the classification of polymers based on various characteristics. One common way to categorize polymers is by their origin, dividing them into natural and synthetic types. Natural polymers, such as cellulose, starch, and proteins, are found in living organisms. Synthetic polymers, on the other hand, are man-made through chemical processes, including polyethylene, PVC, and nylon.

Another important classification is based on the polymer's molecular structure. Linear polymers consist of long, unbranched chains. Branched polymers have chains with side branches. Cross-linked polymers have covalent bonds between polymer chains, creating a network structure.

Polymers can also be grouped by their thermal behavior. Thermoplastic polymers soften when heated and harden when cooled, allowing them to be repeatedly molded. Examples include polyethylene and polystyrene. Thermosetting polymers undergo irreversible chemical changes upon heating, forming a rigid, infusible structure. Bakelite and epoxy resins are thermosetting polymers.

Finally, polymers can be classified by their monomer composition. Homopolymers are made from a single type of monomer, while copolymers are formed from two or more different types of monomers. This diversity in structure and properties allows for a vast range of applications for different polymer types.
