Polyester-containing is a descriptor used for materials or products in which polyester polymers constitute a component of the material system. This category includes textiles, resins, blends, composites, coatings, and adhesives where polyester is present as fibers, as a matrix, or as part of a multi-polymer formulation.

Chemically, polyesters are polymers that contain ester linkages in their main chain, typically produced by condensation of diols with dicarboxylic acids or their derivatives. The polyester family includes common polymers such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), and glycol-modified PET (PETG).

In textiles, polyester-containing fabrics can be composed of polyester fibers alone or blended with natural fibers such as cotton or wool to improve strength, durability, wrinkle resistance, and moisture management. In packaging and consumer goods, PET is widely used for bottles and films. In industry, polyester resins serve as matrices for glass fiber-reinforced composites and are used in coatings and laminates.

From an environmental perspective, polyester-containing products are often recyclable, though recycling pathways vary by form. Mechanical recycling preserves the polymer identity but can reduce performance, while chemical recycling can depolymerize polyester back to monomers. Polyester can shed microfibers during washing, contributing to microplastic pollution, and end-of-life disposal affects environmental impact.
