PohjoisKorean

PohjoisKorean is a term sometimes found in Finnish-language writing as a concatenated form used to refer to North Korea or North Korean topics. More common Finnish forms are Pohjois-Korea (the country) and pohjois-korealainen (North Korean, as an adjective). The term PohjoisKorean is not standard in Finnish, but may appear in informal use or in search queries.

North Korea, officially the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), is a country on the northern part of the Korean Peninsula in East Asia. It is bordered by China and Russia to the north and by its heavily militarized border with South Korea to the south. The capital and largest city is Pyongyang. Since its establishment in 1948, North Korea has been governed by the ruling Kim family lineage and the Workers’ Party of Korea, functioning as a centralized single‑party state with a tightly controlled economy, media, and public life. The government emphasizes Juche, an ideology of self-reliance, and maintains a substantial military apparatus.

The economy is a centrally planned system with substantial state control over production and distribution. International sanctions and regional isolation have constrained growth and development, and available data are often limited or opaque. Everyday life is characterized by restricted political freedoms, controlled information, and extensive state surveillance, with limited opportunities for travel or contact with the outside world.

Internationally, North Korea pursues a complex set of relations. It has pursued nuclear and missile programs that have drawn widespread international concern and led to periodic sanctions and negotiations with points of engagement with South Korea and the United States. Diplomatic ties are generally stronger with some regional neighbors, notably China, than with Western countries.
