PlatinumGames Ltd. is a Japanese video game developer known for its action-focused, stylish games. The company was founded in 2009 by Atsushi Inaba, Hideki Kamiya, Shinji Mikami, and other colleagues who left Capcom, with early funding and publishing support from Sega. It is based in Japan and has built a reputation for high-energy combat, technical polish, and distinctive visual flair.

The studio’s early releases helped define its signature style. Bayonetta (2009) established PlatinumGames as a provider of fast-paced, highly technical action. Vanquish (2010) followed, again in collaboration with Sega. Bayonetta 2 (2014) was published by Nintendo and helped cement a long-running relationship with the company. The partnership with Square Enix produced NieR: Automata (2017), a critically acclaimed action RPG that broadened the studio’s audience beyond its core fans. Nintendo has also published several later titles, including Astral Chain (2019), a Switch-exclusive that highlighted PlatinumGames’ fluid combat systems and cooperative play.

In addition to its high-profile collaborations, the studio has explored different publishing partners. Babylon’s Fall (2022) was developed with PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix and represented a challenging foray into live-service design.
