Plasmaglukoosi

Plasmaglukoosi refers to the concentration of glucose, a simple sugar, circulating in the blood plasma of an organism. Glucose is the primary source of energy for most cells in the body, and its levels are tightly regulated by hormones, primarily insulin and glucagon, to maintain homeostasis. When you eat carbohydrates, they are broken down into glucose, which is then absorbed into the bloodstream, leading to an increase in plasmaglukoosi levels. Insulin, secreted by the pancreas, helps cells take up glucose from the blood, thus lowering plasmaglukoosi. Conversely, when plasmaglukoosi levels drop, such as during fasting or exercise, glucagon is released, signaling the liver to break down stored glycogen into glucose and release it into the blood, thereby raising plasmaglukoosi.

Measuring plasmaglukoosi is a common diagnostic tool in healthcare. A normal fasting plasmaglukoosi level in healthy adults typically ranges from 70 to 100 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL). Levels higher than this can indicate conditions like prediabetes or diabetes mellitus. Persistent hyperglycemia, or high plasmaglukoosi, can lead to serious long-term health complications affecting the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and cardiovascular system. Conversely, hypoglycemia, or low plasmaglukoosi, can cause symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, and in severe cases, seizures or coma. Blood glucose monitoring is essential for managing diabetes and detecting metabolic disorders.
