Plasmacellstumör is a German term referring to a plasma cell tumor. Plasma cells are a type of white blood cell that produce antibodies, which are crucial components of the immune system. When these cells become cancerous, they can multiply uncontrollably and form a tumor.

These tumors can arise in various locations. The most common type is multiple myeloma, which originates in the bone marrow. However, plasma cell tumors can also develop in soft tissues, a condition known as extramedullary plasmacytoma. Less commonly, they can appear as a solitary lesion in the bone, called a solitary plasmacytoma of bone.

Symptoms vary depending on the location and extent of the tumor. Multiple myeloma can lead to bone pain, fractures, fatigue due to anemia, kidney problems, and recurrent infections. Extramedullary plasmacytomas may present as a palpable mass or cause symptoms related to the organ they affect.

Diagnosis typically involves imaging tests like X-rays, CT scans, or MRI, as well as blood and urine tests to detect abnormal proteins produced by the plasma cells. A biopsy of the tumor may be necessary for confirmation.

Treatment strategies depend on the type, stage, and patient's overall health. Options can include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and stem cell transplantation. The prognosis for plasmacellstumör varies significantly based on these factors.
