Planspegel

Planspegel is a term used in surveying, cartography, and architecture to denote a fixed reference marker on a plan or map that ties the drawing to real-world measurements and orientation. It functions as an anchor for interpreting, reproducing, and aligning plan data with field measurements and other drawings.

In practice, a planspegel may indicate the scale of the drawing, the coordinate grid, and the directional reference used on the plan. It helps ensure consistency when plans are printed at different sizes, when sheets are combined for a project, or when overlays from different phases or disciplines are superimposed. A planspegel point is typically marked on the plan with a symbol and label and can be linked to a coordinate or grid system employed by a surveying authority or project team.

The concept is related to, but distinct from, physical benchmarks or control points installed in the field. While benchmarks are actual surface markers, planspegel refers to the symbolic or graphical reference on the plan itself that enables accurate translation between drawing and reality. In some contexts the term may be used interchangeably with related ideas such as reference marks or scale indicators, depending on regional practice.
