Plaijan

Plaijan is a coastal city in the eastern part of Meridia. Located on a natural harbor along the Gulf of Sore, it functions as a regional hub for commerce, fishing, and administration. The city centers on a compact urban core, with hills to the west and a low delta plain to the east.

Historically, Plaijan began as a fishing village in the 12th century and expanded its role as a trading port during the late medieval period. It gained city status in the 15th century and later developed rail and industrial links in the 19th century, shaping its present urban layout and economy.

Economy and infrastructure: The harbor remains the economic backbone, handling container traffic, bulk goods, and passenger services. A light manufacturing zone produces textiles and consumer goods, while logistics, tourism, and services support the workforce. The city hosts a university campus and a research institute that contribute to regional innovation.

Demographics and culture: The population is about 170,000 as of 2022. The official language is Plaijanian, with minority communities speaking related regional languages. Cultural life centers on the Sea Lantern Festival, and the city preserves landmarks such as the Plaijan Lighthouse, the Old Market, and the Maritime Museum.
