Pintalämmitys

Pintalämmitys, often translated as surface heating, refers to a heating system where the heat is distributed through a large surface area, such as a floor, wall, or ceiling. This method contrasts with traditional systems that use localized radiators or vents. The primary advantage of pintalämmitys is its ability to provide a more even and comfortable heat distribution throughout a room. Because the heat is emitted from a large surface, the temperature differences between the floor and ceiling are minimized, leading to a sensation of uniform warmth.

Commonly, pintalämmitys is implemented as underfloor heating (lattialämmitys), where heating elements, typically pipes carrying warm water or electric cables, are embedded within the floor structure. This system is popular in new constructions and renovations due to its aesthetic appeal, as it is completely concealed, and its energy efficiency. The large heated surface allows for lower operating temperatures compared to radiators, which can reduce energy consumption. Wall heating and ceiling heating systems operate on similar principles, offering alternative solutions depending on the building's design and heating needs. These systems can also be used for cooling by circulating chilled water.
